Welcome to the Air District!
Welcome to the Air District and congratulations on becoming part of an organization that strives to better the lives of Bay Area residents. The Air District provides numerous advantageous perks, including the opportunity to become a part of the BAAQMD Employees’ Association (EA).
The EA was formed in 1973 by a group of concerned employees who believed that the Bay Area Air Quality Management District needed a viable employees organization. On announcing the formation of the EA, the founding members stated:
“The District Employees Association will have as its principal aim the advancement of all interests affecting the welfare of District employees, including but not limited to wages, promotional opportunities, job security and fringe benefits. Other specific aims of the Association will be to improve communication among District employees relevant to District decisions and policies, to promote intelligent cooperation between the Association and the Bay Area Air Pollution District and to assist in the maintenance of the highest standards of public services.”

Benefits of Membership
Becoming a member of the EA offers many benefits. Some of the benefits include but are not limited to EA representation, exclusive EA events, opportunities to vote on proposed contracts.

Memorandum of Understanding
The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is an agreement between the Air District and members of the EA. You will find that this document includes a plethora of information about administrative procedures and policies.
EA Committees
An additional benefit of joining the EA is the opportunity to be a part of an EA committee to tackle special projects or issues. Click below to learn more about EA committees.
Meetings
The EA holds board meetings monthly and general membership meetings quarterly. EA committees also hold meetings on a regular or as-needed basis. Click below to learn more

Membership is open to any full- or part-time employee of the District, except those recognized by the District as Management and Confidential employees, and elected and appointed members of the Boards and Councils of the BAAQMD.

No, joining the EA is voluntary. Here is why you should join:
Help protect rights and working conditions at the District.
Develop leadership skills through active involvement.
Learn more about the EA and how the District operates.
Have a say in the decisions and direction of the EA.
Meet and develop friendships and community with other EA members. EA events, committees and meetings are great ways to meet your colleagues that you would not otherwise get the opportunity to get to know.

Eligible District employees must opt-in to be a part of the EA. Membership is open to any full- or part-time District employee, except those recognized by the District as Management and Confidential employees.
Should you choose to sign up to be a part of the EA, dues will be automatically from your paycheck.
